The Annual Orphans of Burma Charity Golf Day for 2024 took place on Friday 22ND<\/sup> March on a beautiful Autumn morning with over 60 players taking part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scores were very competitive and tight, with eventual winners being Don O\u2019Brien and Mark Matthews scoring 61.75.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark was called in as a reserve by Don to replace his original partner and what a good idea that turn out to be! This is also actually Don\u2019s third win with three different partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Runners up were Harry and Peter Miller playing in this event for the first time with a score of 62.00 and I am sure they will be back next year to go one better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closely behind them in third place was another new pairing of Gus Elliot and Marty Morris with a score of 62.50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gus was also a late entry and I am sure Marty was happy he got a very good partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, the best mixed pair for the day with a score of 64.75 went to Stewart Wharton and Joan Brown so well done to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is Stewart\u2019s third mixed title with three different ladies, and it shows you what a versatile player he is.  Noting that he was clever and smart enough to win the first one with his wife Chris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best story of the day has to be Joan Brown as she was called in on the morning of the event to replace Ali Baker who had the dreaded covid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you Joan, not only for playing at such short notice, but also for donating the Golf bag prize back to the charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would like to thank the members and sponsors that took part in this annual event both old and new, thanks also go to the members who were unable to play on the day and still donated their entry fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A big thankyou goes to the Nedlands Golf Club for holding the event. Thanks also to Sean, the bar staff and Zamry and to Brad and the ground staff who prepared the course for the day.  Without the support of these people the event would not be able to occur, and I greatly appreciate their kindness and contribution to the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally I would like to call out a very special thank you to Mandy Sudlow Brown and Marg Doyle who\u2019s assistance and support was exceptional both on the day and lead up to the event.  The raffle prizes which looked magnificent and contained some awesome goodies were kindly donated by the ladies of Nedlands Golf Club which raised a significant sum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Burmese association of W.A. received $3675-00 and thank everyone that contributed, supported and played on the day for which they are very grateful and appreciative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
