The 35th<\/sup> AVGU Men\u2019s Championship and 7th<\/sup> Women\u2019s Championship were held in Darwin over the week of the 1st<\/sup> of September to the 5th<\/sup> of September<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nedlands representatives were Joe Alexander, Wayne Trumble, Ian Mumford, Brian Stuart, Yolande and Vince Caruso, Patricia and Steven Noske, Nikki Bellemore-Thomas, Mandy Sudlow-Brown and Beth Stone<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eleven Nedlands players were joined by Caroline Thomson<\/em><\/strong> from Albany and Chris Hyma<\/em><\/strong> from Royal Perth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darwin<\/strong> and Palmerston Golf Clubs<\/strong> were the host clubs for the week and they were presented in excellent condition,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A welcome reception was held on Monday at the Mindil Beach Casino<\/strong> and a Presentation Dinner was held on Friday at the Darwin Sailing Club<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preceding the Championship itself 4BBB Events were held at both Darwin and Palmerston and around 120 pairs played in the Championship opener.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yolande and Vince Caruso<\/strong> finished second at Darwin Golf Club with 45 points \u2013 they lost on a countback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With both the Women\u2019s and the Men\u2019s Championship there were 3 Grades \u2013 \u201cA\u201d Grade, \u201cB\u201d Grade and \u201cC\u201d Grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023 Cath Bellemore – \u201cA\u201d Grade Runner-up in Canberra<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2006-Jim Purves \u2013 \u201cB\u201d Grade Gross Winner in Canberra<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2006-Gordon Holusa \u2013 \u201cA\u201d Grade Nett Winner in Canberra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2008-Joe Alexander \u2013 \u201cB\u201d Grade Gross Winner in Adelaide<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2011-Neil Watson \u2013 \u201cA\u201d Grade Nett Winner in Hobart<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2015-National Nett Champion-Joe Alexander in Darwin.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2017-Joe Alexander \u2013 \u201cB\u201d Grade Gross Winner in the Gold Coast<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2018-Joe Alexander \u2013 \u201cB\u201d Grade Gross Winner in Port Stephens<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023 Joe Alexander – \u201cB\u201d Grade Nett Winner in Canberra<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2023 Gavin Furness \u2013 \u201cA\u201d Grade Nett Runner-up in Canberra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were some notable performances from NGC member’s being:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brian Stuart<\/strong> won the Best AM Round in \u201cB\u201d Grade at Darwin in round 2 with 38 Stableford Points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wayne Trumble<\/strong> was 9th<\/sup> at the same venue in \u201cC\u201d Grade with 33 points<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Alexander<\/strong> won the overall round 2 Stableford at Palmerston with 37 points \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And no doubt the best player of the week was Mandy Sudlow-Brown<\/strong> who came away with plenty of prizes but none better than being crowned Women’s Stableford Champion. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
