Over the weekend of the 19th<\/sup> and 20th of October the first two rounds of the Men\u2019s Club Championships were decided with perfect golfing weather on both days.<\/p>\n

All top seeds progressed through to the semi-finals. In the \u201cC\u201d Grade the top 4 progressed.<\/p>\n

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pascoe Cup winner Tristan Geerlings<\/strong> won a hard fought battle with Matt Dumble<\/strong>, ultimately winning at the 16th<\/sup> hole.<\/p>\n

James Pluske<\/strong> prevailed in a see sawing contest against Dylan Morgan<\/strong> \u2013 1 up.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Matt and Dylan <\/em><\/strong>will play one another in the Semi Finals of the Minor Championship.<\/em><\/p>\n

John Samuels, <\/strong>at his effervescent best, went down to John McKay 2\/1 \u2013 <\/strong>not even HIS<\/strong> best up and down EVER<\/strong> on the 17th<\/sup> could save him.<\/p>\n

The battle of the Jones boys was won by Brendan Jones<\/strong> \u2013 5\/4.<\/p>\n

John and Joe Jones<\/em><\/strong> will play off in the other semi-final of the Minor Championship.<\/em><\/p>\n

So, the Club Championship semi-finalists have been decided and will do battle next Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS \u2013 SATURDAY 26TH<\/sup> OCTOBER<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

8.00am       (1) Tristan Geerlings vs (5) James Pluske<\/strong><\/p>\n

8.07am       (7) John McKay vs (3) Brendan Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n

MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS \u2013 SATURDAY 26TH<\/sup> OCTOBER <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

8.14am       (8) Matt Dumble vs (4) Dylan Morgan <\/strong><\/p>\n

8.21am       (2) John Samuels vs (6) Joe Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cA\u201d GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The 2023 CG Dudley Champion and \u201cB\u201d Grade Champion, Luke Bai<\/strong> and graduated to \u201cA\u201d Grade this year where he qualified no 4. He progressed to the semis with a hard fought one up win over Brayden Blackham<\/strong> who unfortunately 3 putted the last hole.<\/p>\n

The number 1 seed and favourite to take out the title, James Russ,<\/strong> overcame Callum White<\/strong> in the first round 4\/2 and then a hapless George Gelavis<\/strong> 9\/7 to book his place in the semis.<\/p>\n

George had overcome the 2021 \u201cB\u201d Gade Champion Wilfred Ong<\/strong> in round one \u2013 a shellacking 5 and 4.<\/p>\n

The defending Champion, Ian MacDonald<\/strong> had an interesting tussle with Calum Lindsay<\/strong> before running out a 4\/2 victor.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Greg Polla <\/strong>took until the 20th<\/sup> hole to overcome another Junior Noah Keren.<\/strong> Next year Noah.<\/p>\n

So, Ian would now take on Greg Polla<\/strong> \u2013 a promoter\u2019s dream that turned out to be a fizzer. Talk about Wilfred\u2019s shellacking this was a real shellacking \u2013 9\/7 to Greg Polla. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Footnote \u2013 I bet that gets a mention in The Gallery\u2019s Prize giving.<\/em><\/p>\n

Gus Elliot<\/strong> and the President Damon Watkins<\/strong> had an evenly matched tussle with Gus \u201coutchipping\u201d his opponent to prevail 2 up.<\/p>\n

Gus then faced first round winner Grant Evans <\/strong>who was relentless in his demolition of Andrew Frazer \u2013 <\/strong>winning 8\/6.<\/strong> Gus Elliot<\/strong> was then relentless in beating Grant in the second round \u2013 7\/5.<\/p>\n

Another chipping match in the semis \u2013 Elliot vs Polla<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two mouth-watering semi- finals await us.<\/p>\n

\u201cA\u201d GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS – SATURDAY 26TH<\/sup> OCTOBER<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

8.28am       (1) James Russ (9 H\u2019cap) vs (4) Luke Bai (11 H\u2019cap)<\/strong><\/p>\n

8.35am       (10) Greg Polla (12 H\u2019Cap) vs (3) Gus Elliot (8 H\u2019Cap)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cB\u201d GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

It was going to be interesting to follow the progress of 3 Junior Members playing in their first Club Championship Match Play \u2013 Harry Alcock, Theo Grobler <\/strong>and Ollie Wright<\/strong><\/p>\n

Disappointingly walkovers spoilt this division \u2013 4 in all.<\/p>\n

The in form Sam Gelavis<\/strong> was no match for Ufaq Qazi<\/strong> and Ufaq prevailed 6\/5.<\/p>\n

Ufaq then faced number one qualifier, Oliver Bisschops,<\/strong> in the quarters and this was another match that could have gone either way. Ufaq had a chance on the 18th<\/sup> to take the match into overtime but could not convert a 3 metre putt \u2013 result Oliver Bisschops<\/strong> 1 up.<\/p>\n

Juniors Harry Alcock<\/strong> and Ollie Wright<\/strong> were paired together and Harry, after a few scares, ran out the winner at the 17th<\/sup> \u2013 2\/1.<\/p>\n

Jack Raynor<\/strong> did not have his best day and Theo Grobler<\/strong> progressed to the quarter finals \u2013 5\/4<\/p>\n

A quarter final between 2 juniors. Harry Alcock<\/strong> and Theo Grobler<\/strong>. Who would progress? Theo did not have his \u201cA\u201d Game and Harry played solid golf and earned his 6\/5 victory to book a semi-final spot against the number one qualifier, Oliver Bisschops<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Don O\u2019Brien<\/strong> progressed to the quarters with a solid victory against the number 2 qualifier Tim Song <\/strong>\u2013 4\/3.<\/p>\n

One of the walkovers in this Division saw Don automatically get into the Semi-Finals where he would play John Sheridan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

John took care of his Senior Pennants partner, Jeff Lane, 4\/2, <\/strong>and then moved to the quarters against another Senior Pennants teammate, Ted Mangan,<\/strong> who had a walkover in round one.<\/p>\n

This went down to the wire with John Sheridan<\/strong> winning at the 20th<\/sup> hole where he received a stroke from his opponent.<\/p>\n

8.42 am       (1) Oliver Bisschops (17 H\u2019Cap) vs (12) Harry Alcock (20 H\u2019Cap)<\/strong><\/p>\n

8.49am       (15) Don O\u2019Brien (15 H\u2019Cap) vs John Sheridan (19 H\u2019Cap)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cC\u201d GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The quarter – finals were held on Sunday and the top 4 seeds made it through to the semi-finals<\/p>\n

First time \u201cC\u201d Grader, Tony Cowan,<\/strong> prevailed over Scottish compatriot Ed Herron<\/strong> 5\/4.<\/p>\n

Perpetual finalist, Angus Johnson<\/strong>, once again progressed to the semis with a hard fought win over another first time \u201cC\u201d Grader, Greg Paddon<\/strong> \u2013 but it took him until the final hole.<\/p>\n

Ron Edenburg<\/strong> prevailed over Michael Giudici<\/strong> in another seesawing affair with Ron winning the final 3 holes to prevail \u2013 2 up.<\/p>\n

John Clarkson<\/strong> took on Peter Glass<\/strong> and he also prevailed in a hard fought win \u2013 winning the 15th<\/sup> and 16th<\/sup> to win 3\/2.<\/p>\n

\u201cC\u201d GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS – SATURDAY 26TH<\/sup> OCTOBER<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

8.56am       (1) Tony Cowan (22 H\u2019Cap) vs (4) Angus Johnson (36 H\u2019cap).<\/strong><\/p>\n

9.03am       (2) Ron Edenburg (22 H\u2019Cap) vs (3) John Clarkson (30 H\u2019Cap)<\/strong><\/p>\n

THE FINALS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In a big weekend of golf. the finalists for the men will be decided on Saturday 26th<\/sup> October and the Club Championship Finals will be held on Sunday 27th<\/sup> October So for those not playing put those dates in your calendar and come up and support the finalists.<\/p>\n

Presentations will take place after play \u2013 around 5.00pm.<\/p>\n
