On Saturday 12th July 73 players participated in the 4th Neil Watson Tray – an 18-hole Par event sponsored by Ron Birmingham, who also presented the Perpetual Trophy to the club.

Ron Birmingham was joined by Peter Boyne, Greg Parker and former Club Champion Phil McPhail (1981) in the Marquee group of the day.

Neil Watson was highly regarded in the club and his service has been recognised with the Perpetual Trophy named in his honour.

Neil passed away in August 2021. He was 84 years old and one of the club’s longest serving members, having joined in 1953 as a junior member. He represented the club in Pennants over many years and won many Honour Board events with his “sweet swing. He was one of nature’ s true gentlemen.

The inaugural winner of the Tray, Greg Polla (12 H’Cap), played in the morning and finished a long way from the winner.

The morning field was led by Jason Gregor (24 H’Cap) and Cody Price (7 H’Cap) on 2up.

Jason started from the 7th and was all square after his first nine. Then 3 pluses during the next 5 holes saw him 3up with 4 to play. A couple of losses and he was back to square. A final plus on the 6th put him back to 2 up.

Vying with him was Cody Price (7 H’Cap). Starting from the 3rd two losses commenced his day and then he sprung into action with 6 pluses over the next 10 holes and with 6 holes left he was 4 up and looking to back up his recent Busselton Bucket win. Then 2 losses and back to 2 up. 4 halves to finish and 2 up was the final score and now second in the clubhouse.

David Revill (22 H’Cap) from the 7th was also in a good position after 15 holes – 3 up. 2 losses and a half to finish and 1 up overall.

Cody Girdwood (17 H’Cap) starting from the 2nd hole was slow away – 3 down after 7 holes. After that he reeled off 6 pluses and 2 losses to also complete the day 1 up.

Pennant Players, John Samuels (7 H’Cap) and Mark Matthews (5 H’Cap) were all square.

The afternoon field could not better Par with John Sheridan (20 H’Cap), Greg Parker (13 H’Cap) and Stewart Wharton (6 H’Cap) finishing Square.

So, the 2025 Champion is Jason Gregor on a countback from Cody Price.

Best Gross went to Jack Ellis (2 H’Cap) – Square.
