Stuart Munro Awarded Life Membership at Nedlands Golf Club

We are delighted to announce that Stuart Munro has been awarded Life Membership of the Nedlands Golf Club, recognising his outstanding commitment and service to the club over nearly three decades.

Celebrating Exceptional Service

During the recent AGM, Peter Boyne put forth the nomination for Stuart’s life membership, highlighting the rarity and significance of this distinction. Since the club’s founding in 1933, only a small number of members have received this honour, with just two current life members prior to Stuart’s appointment.

Peter remarked on the stringent criteria for life membership, stating, “The committee is very cognizant of the fact that the awarding of life membership is an extraordinary event. While there have been many people who have contributed to the success of this club, we are of the view that Stuart has been an outstanding member.” He noted Stuart’s impressive 27-year membership, six years of committee service—including roles as House Director, Vice President, and President—and his ongoing commitment as a regular player and dedicated volunteer.

Stuart’s remarkable contribution as the volunteer group coordinator for 17 years was singled out for praise. Peter acknowledged the complexity and dedication required for this role, noting, “He has just been an absolute rock there and I would like to move that the membership vote that we admit Stuart as a life member of the club.”

With the support of the assembled members and no votes in opposition, Stuart’s nomination was unanimously approved.

Stuart’s Gracious Response

Following the announcement, Stuart expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honour:

“Thank you for those who proposed me. Thank you to the committee for this honour. When Fitzy was made a life member last year, I thought he would be the last person that I would live to see as a life member in this club, because we very rarely do it. I’m stunned that you’ve done me that honour and very grateful and thank you all for that vote of confidence in me.”

Stuart reminisced about his long history at Nedlands Golf Club, stretching back 70 years to his earliest golf lessons as a junior. He reflected on the joy and purpose the club has brought to his and his wife Susie’s life, and paid tribute to fellow volunteer Peter Steward for his vital support:

“Without Peter Steward, I would never have been able to do half the work that I was able to complete…Thinking of Peter tonight, I spoke to him today and I wish he could be here to share this with me tonight.”

He also thanked his wife Susie for her understanding and support over the years, concluding, “It’s a wonderful privilege that you’ve given me.”

Congratulations and Thanks

Stuart’s tireless volunteer work, leadership, and genuine club spirit have left an enduring legacy at Nedlands. On behalf of all members, we congratulate Stuart Munro on his Life Membership. The club is richer for his passion, generosity, and friendship.
