17.10.32-27.10.25
Sadly, longstanding member and Past President and Life Member John Duncan passed away on Monday October 27, 2025 ten days after his 93rd birthday. John was a quiet, well-spoken and highly respected member of the club who enjoyed his golf and playing in mixed events with his more accomplished wife Deirdre who has 12 Club Championships to her name.
In his working life John was the Valuer General with the Department of Lands and Surveys (now Landgate) and was responsible for the valuation of our land.
John and Deirdre joined the club in the early 1970’s and John became involved in the administration affairs of the club not long after.
John also was very interested in Vintage cars.
He became Vice-President in 1980 and then President in 1982 – both terms of 2 years. He returned to the Presidency in 1994 once again serving for 2 years
In 1976 John’s offer to donate a Trophy to the club was accepted. It became the Father and Son Trophy and it is definitely the oldest trophy in our trophy cabinet and arguably the most valuable.
The origins according to John were – “The Cup was originally presented to my maternal great grandfather, Richard Donne, for a prize at the Birmingham Agricultural Show in the mid 1800’s. Richard was the Estate Manager for the Earl of Strathmore at Glamis Castle in Scotland and knew the Queen Mother as a child when she lived there.”
In recent times it has become The John Duncan Family Trophy.
The records show that John last played competitively at Nedlands on July 13, 2011.
In 2012 John was made a Life Member for his services to the club.
The club’s condolences are extended to Deidre, and to their children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchild.
Details of his Funeral will be advised at a later date.
