Nedlands Golf Club icon Greg Fitzhardinge was presented with the coveted WA Golf Industry Recognition Award at the annual Gala Dinner over the weekend following his long service to the sport, most significantly for his 27 years as Executive Director of the WA Golf Association.

Apart from his service to Nedlands as Captain, long standing tournament director for the Nedlands Masters (which featured prominently throughout the night) and enormous contribution to Match at his own Club, it is his work in other areas and events which has him held in even higher regard.

A few international and national achievements he mentioned included refereeing the Open Championship, rules at all events in Australasia such as the Australian Open, Australian PGA and Australian Masters to tournament work throughout the Asia Pacific region.

At State administration level, he introduced a team ethos derived from his cricketing days, to deliver a very competitive Western Australian team culminating in winning the interstate series in 1999 (the last time WA have been able to achieve this) and a production line of high class players.

His acceptance speech was memorable as he had MC Basil Zempilas and the packed Crown Ballroom in awe with his ability to recall significant moments and highlights throughout his long career. He thanked his wife Lyn and the Presidents he worked with at the WAGA for their support.

Well done Fitzy!
