VALE – Daniel McDaniel (Dan)
(23 June 1947 to 28 August 2018 – Aged 71)
After a long battle with cancer Dan McDaniel was advised on July 17 he was in remission which was a great relief to him and his family and cause for great celebration.
Suddenly a fortnight ago Dan was admitted to hospital with suspected Pneumonia. Complications arose from which he never recovered and sadly he passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Our Sympathy is extended to his wife Dale, daughter Katherine and son Dan and their families together with his sister Nicky, brother Roger and their families on this sad occasion.
Dan served with distinction in the SAS and is a Vietnam Veteran. He loved his Rugby Union and in particular Associates Rugby Club. The Fremantle Dockers was his preferred AFL Club. And then there was the golf club.
Dan joined the club in April 2001, and was quick to observe that Nedlands was the friendliest golf club of which he had been a member. Whilst not playing competitively at Nedlands in 2001 he was often seen on The Balcony enjoying the views of the course, river and distant hills. He started to play regularly in early 2002 and played through until July 2014 when back problems forced him into retirement from the game and from then on watched from The Balcony.
Dan also served as House Director in 2008.
Dan quickly made friends and always took the time to introduce himself to new members and on many occasions he would ask them to join him on The Balcony for a drink at what was fondly known as Dan’s Table – in addition a special chair was always left for him so he could continue to take in the scenery.
Sadly Dan McDaniel has left that chair and will not be returning- but it will always be fondly remembered as Dan’s Chair.
The family advises that a private funeral will be held at a later date.
