The men played their Club Championship quarter and semi-final matches last weekend in beautiful conditions and there was some strong golf on display.
Quarter Finals – Saturday 15th
In the Club Championships bracket there were some equally matched golfers with all but 1 match going to the 18th Hole. Michael Duffy provided a solid performance to take our CG Dudley Winner Jeremy Crabb to the 18th hole and narrowly lost 1Up while Aidan Cooper was able to deny Colin Yoong on the 19th hole in a well fought match. Callum White prevailed over Harry Traylen in a close match 1Up and John Samuels produced some excellent golf and was able to defeat Kayne Wardell 4&3.
In the A Grade bracket, the match between Ross Nayler and Ian Macdonald went to the 20th with Ross Nayler coming out on top in a very close contest. Mackenzie Buck managed to overcome a very strong performance from ex-captain Jorge Botello prevailing 3 and 2. Club favorite Riley Gott also managed to come out on top against Angus Parker winning that match 3 and 2. While John Rogers fought off a late charge from Shane Maloney to win that game 2 and 1.
Matches in the B Grade quarter finals were more definitive with a strong win by Ray Badnall 6 and 5 over Greg Parry and a 4 and 2 victory for Kaustav Pal over Matt King. Although he is seen around the club a lot less these days, David Fear displayed that he hadn’t forgotten the course and won his game against Terry Green 4 and 3. Junior member Zach Murray also played well to win his match against Gordon Holusa 4 and 3.
In C Grade, a last minute withdrawal meant Simon Smith progressed straight through the semi finals to play against Tony Cowan who won his game against Terence Tan 2 and 1. Angus Johnson has managed to qualify for club championships every year in recent memory, but this year was there no fairy tale finish with Ron Edenburg coming out on top in their match 5 and 4. Playing in his first club championships, new member Sean Chia played well to narrowly go down in his match against Kevin Doonan 2 and 1.
Semi Finals – Sunday 16th
In the Club Championships semi final matches played on Sunday, Jeremy Crabb held off Aidan Cooper to win his match 3 and 1 while Callum White continued his streak of fine golf overcoming John Samuels 2 and 1. The final for the club championship will be played between Callum and Jeremy on Saturday the 22nd. The Minor Championship final was also played on Sunday with Kayne Wardell overcoming an in-form Colin Yoong to win that match 6 and 4 and become the Men’s Minor Club Champion. In the A Grade semi finals, Mackenzie Buck prevailed over Ross Nayler 2 and 1 and Riley Gott played well to progress through to the A Grade final by beating John Rogers 3 and 2. In B Grade, Ray Badnall showed his experience by overcoming Kaustav Pal 4 and 2 and junior Zach Murray hit his straps to beat David Fear 7 and 5. The final will be between Ray Badnall and Zach Murray. In C Grade there were strong performances, with Tony Cowan overcoming Simon Smith in a grudge match 3 and 2 and Ron Edenburg held his cool in a nail-biter match to overcome Kevin Doonan on the 18th 1up.
