VINCE CARUSO WINS CAM WILSON BOWL

The Cam Wilson Bowl was inaugurated in 1991 and was named after former Captain, President, Historian and Life Member Cam Wilson. The Cup was a forerunner to the CG Dudley Cup and Club Championships. Prior to 1991 only Full Members were eligible to play in the CG Dudley so the committee of the day decided to include a number of Provisional Members in the field and these positions came from the results of the Cam Wilson Bowl.

Around 2000 this changed, but the Bowl maintained its prestige and is still played as a forerunner to the CG Dudley with the winner being able to reserve a group of four players in the CG Dudley Cup.

2020 celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the event and the following Past Winners were in the field – Terence Tan (2006), Angus Johnson (2010), Ray Badnall (2013), Colin Yoong (2014) and defending Champion Grant Evans There has not been a Multiple Winner.

Longstanding members Tony Slee (44 years) and Ron Birmingham (40 years) kindly sponsored the Bowl this year and a vote of appreciation is extended to them for their ongoing support of events at the club.

This year 99 players played on Saturday the 22nd of August in perfect weather conditions and after the morning field had finished -;

  1. Vince Caruso was the clubhouse leader with 41 points – finishing his round with 4 points on his final hole.
  2. Running second with 38 Points was Reegan Cake who had 22 Points on his back nine, with a wipe on the 17th

The afternoon field could not match the 41 points established in the morning but there were a few players who tried but failed-;

  1. Dressed as usual with “sartorial splendor and sporting his best Hawaiian Shirt from the House of Target (Tarjay)” Haydn Robinson tried hard amassing 24 points on his last nine holes but eventually had to settle for second spot.
  2. There were several players on 38 points namely Captain Joe Alexander, Brian Hanna and Past Captains Gavin Furness and Jim Purves. Of those Joe Alexander and Brian Hanna both had victory in their sights up until the final holes.
  3. Next with 37 points was current Club Champion Ben Cullinan who took home the Gross Prize with a fine 71 off the stick.

So congratulations to the 2020 Winner of the Cam Wilson Bowl, Vince Caruso, who now gets a reserved position for 4 players in the upcoming CG Dudley Cup.
