DIVISION TWO

In desperate need of a win to stave off the threat of relegation to Division Three, the team had to defeat LAKELANDS at Lakelands which was always going to be a tall order.

The selectors opted to promote Aidan Cooper from the Division Five team after strong performances in the number one position. He replaced James Morris who took his place in the Division Five team for their Round Six clash. The line-up also changed in an effort to win with the major change being elevating Harry Traylen to number one with Edmund Hall dropping to number two.

But unfortunately, it was all to no avail with the team going down 6/1 for the second consecutive week. Several matches were close, but did not go our way. – Tristan Geerlings was the sole winner wining 2/1.

This leaves the team in last position going into the last round which will be played at home against second placed team Royal Perth who will be looking for a win to elevate their chances of playing in the Final.

To avoid relegation to Division Three in 2022 the equation is very simple-

  • Nedlands must defeat Royal Perth and Hartfield must defeat Sea View. Should both Nedlands and Sea View win then Nedlands will be relegated.

All final round Division Two Matches will be played at Nedlands on Sunday May 16 with Nedlands playing in the morning. Sea View will also be playing in the morning so the team will know where they are headed in 2022 by lunchtime.

So we invite all members to come along and support the team in this vital clash with Royal Perth – matches will commence from the 1st Tee at 7.30.

DIVISION FIVE

What a way to spend Mother’s Day – get out of bed at 5.30, shower, breakfast on the run and a takeaway coffee so you can get to The Vines before 7.30. That was what the Division Five Team had to do for their Round Six clash with the WA GOLF CLUB. So firstly well done for making it.

A win would have seen the team climb to fourth on the ladder which after a slow start to the season would have been creditable.

A new look team was selected for the encounter with 6 changes from the round five team. Gus Elliott and Ufaq Qasi made their first representative appearances for the club.

The result was extremely close but ultimately WA Golf Club prevailed 4/3.

Gus Elliott went to the 17th hole before losing his first match whilst Usaq Qasi won his first match at the 17th. Damon Watkins, playing in his second match for the club, recorded a hard fought 1 up victory whilst Shane Maloney went down 5/3.

So, after the completion of 4 matches it was two all with Matt Dumble well down and the other two matches close. Matt lost 6/5 and James Morris, in his first Division Five Match, had an excellent 3/1 win. So it was 3 all with John Samuels one down with one hole to play. If he could win the last hole the final result would be a draw – but unfortunately he could not and his opponent ran out the winner.

The team’s final match will be against Royal Perth at WA Golf Club .and a win will see them go past Royal Perth in the final standings.
