The weekend of the 18th and 19th of June was a busy weekend for members with the playing of the above events. Here is a brief summary of both events.

On Saturday, in cold and windy conditions 33 pairs of golfers set out in their quest to win the Canadian Foursomes Championship and to have their name inscribed on the Tasmanian Tray.

The event was generously sponsored this year by Jeff Lane and we acknowledge his support of the day.

The winners were Andrew Frazer and Brett Thompson (combined h’cap 6.75) with net 70.25. In the conditions their 77 off the stick was an excellent effort.

They won in convincing style from the day’s sponsor, Jeff Lane, and guest Garry Kurtz from Lake Karrinyup with73.75. Third were Andrew Roberts and Gavin Parker with 73.875.

Congratulations Andrew and Brett and thanks to Jeff Lane for his sponsorship.

The weather on Sunday improved significantly for the second playing of the Players’ Challenge, a mixed event with a difference.

In this event both Men and Women play an individual Stableford Competition on the same course – the Red Course which has both a Men’s and Women’s rating.

Mara Pritchard and Paul Jenkins once again sponsored the day and we acknowledge with appreciation the significant contribution they have made to the success of the two years events.

The defending champion was Tony Cowan who was looking to go back-to-back. It can be said before we continue that he was not successful.

Tony was one of a field of 30 players trying to win the Players’ Challenge.

At the end of the day Jeff Hamdorf (H’cap 14) with 37 points won by two points from Vanessa Stephen (13) with a further two points back to Krystyna Knottnerus (19) and Susie Rich (20).

Finally thankyou once again to Mara and Paul for your support and congratulations to Jeff on his fine win.

Roving Reporter’s footnote -Whilst it is early in the year watch out for Jeff in the CG Dudley/Club Championships.

The next Mixed Event on the calendar is the DALKEITH CUP on Sunday October 2 – sponsored by Krystyna Knottnerus and Tony Cowan.
