The two Men’s Teams travelled to Sun City yesterday with the Division 5 team playing at 7.30 and the Division Three team at a much more civilized time of 11.30.

Both were looking for wins with the Division 3 team, (after a bye last week), looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss in their Round One match and keep their chances of qualifying for the final alive.

Similarly, the Division 5 team needed to win to maintain a slim chance of making the final.

ROUND 3 DIVISION THREE

Pitted against Wanneroo the team was confident of bouncing back with a victory after the disappointment of the Round One loss.

Once again, all 5 of the team were within reach of victory and with 3 or 4 holes left it looked as though they could come away with a half or even a win. But that was not to be and it turned into a 1.5 to 5.5 loss.

Alister Miles was up against 15-year-old Ollie Marsh who was well credentialed after winning the State Amateur, City of Perth and State Junor Championship. After a slow start Alister fought back strongly ultimately losing at the 16th hole.

Tristan Geerlings made it 2 from 2 with a solid 2/1 victory.

Anthony Joseph was seemingly in control of his match after 9 holes (2 up) – but found himself 1 down with 3 holes left. After squaring the match at the 17th, a half at the last saw him walk away with a half.

But that was it for Nedlands with Callum White, Ben O’Callaghan and Ajay Dhadli failing to capitalize over the closing holes.

Whilst the Final may seem out of reach it is still possible but wins in the last 2 matches are imperative.

Next week it is off to Meadow Springs at 11.30 am up against the top team Sea View.

ROUND 5 DIVISION 5 NORTH

In a must win match against WA Golf Club, David Rees came into the team along with James Pluske, and Dylan Morgan – replacing Matt Dumble, John Venner and Scott van Heurck.

After 9 holes, whilst a couple of matches were only one down, the team needed to lift over the final 9 holes. James Pluske consolidated his winning position and pressed on to win convincingly, 4/3.

John Samuels went down 3/2 and according to sources at Sun City did not have his best day.

Damon Watkins was 1up after nine and went further ahead running out a comfortable 5 /3 winner.

Dylan Morgan could not recover from being 5 down after 9.

David Southam did his bit after being 1 down after nine. A solid final 8 holes saw him win at the 17th.

So, with 2 matches left Nedlands led 3/2.

Jack Ellis led after 9 holes but faltered over the next 7 holes going down 3/2

3 ALL

After being 1 down after 9, David Rees was struggling over the back nine and after 14 holes he was 3 down He fought back over the next 3 holes winning 2 of them and was 1 down playing the last. A win would give both him and the team a half. It was not to be and he lost 2 down.

The final 4/3 result was not what was hoped for and things do not look good for them. As with “The Dockers” finals are seemingly out of calculations.

Next week Wanneroo is the venue for the penultimate Game against Cottesloe at 8.20am.
