It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Russell Parker, life member and dear friend to many of our members. Russell joined the club in 1953 and maintained his membership through to the current day. Russell was an exceptionally talented golfer, representing WA at State level and the club at Pennant level, including as a member of the Nedlands team which won the Division One A Grade pennant in 1960 and 1961. Russell won club championships across 5 decades from the 50s through to the 90’s, 11 in total, won the CG Dudley Cup twice and most other major events on multiple occasions, and in the year 2000 was named the Nedlands Golf Club “Golfer of the Century”.
Russell, together with brother Dennis, was a founder of the Nedlands Junior Masters and over the years was an active member of the Golf Club and wider golfing community in WA, representing Nedlands as delegate to the Junior WAGA council for 20 years and volunteering his time on various club committees, organising social events and golfing reunions.
For many years Russell, together with his wife Lynette, operated a successful local Real Estate agency (R G Parker Realty) with their office located in Hampden Road Nedlands. Following their retirement Russell & Lynette travelled extensively through Australia and Overseas, making many new friends and treasured memories.
Outside of golf Russell maintained a wide network of friends and was an active member of the local community, regularly volunteering his time for a number causes including as a collector for the Red Cross Street appeal for many years.
A funeral service will be held for Russell in the Norfolk Chapel at Karrakatta Cemetery at 1.30pm on Friday 28th December. Russell’s family will then host a wake at the Golf Club from 3.30pm till 6.30pm, with all members and friends of Russell welcome to attend.
Our sincere condolences to Russell’s family, sons Phillip, Gavin and Adrian, brother Dennis and nephews Greg and Stephen.
