“The Big “O”
I am not referring to Roy Orbison.
At NGC we have the triumvirate of Timo (T.T.), Stewo (S. W.) and Wilfred O.
These three mighty “O’s” have put in an effort above and beyond the duties of their respective positions to keep our golf club open on a COVID 19 compliant basis with some record days of players on the course.
The work, thought and effort by the three “O’s” in putting any potential COVID risk out of play was nothing short of astonishing. Rakes have been removed, water fountains disabled and covered and a new hole structure implemented. Potential problems were quickly solved. Buggies had to cease being stored because of the potential to come into contact with door handles. There were a few grizzles but we kept playing golf whilst other courses closed.
The COVID regime developed by the club documented the way forward and soon thereafter other clubs adopted the rules and protocols implemented at NGC.
Meeting after meeting took place to accommodate new COVID rulings to keep the club’s members exercising on their course. We even managed to extend hospitality by playing golf with member’s of clubs whose courses where closed. It would have been even better if we could have offered them an alcoholic refreshment. But a least they were enjoying playing golf the NGC way.
In addition to playing golf we have great duo in Johno the chef and Melisso the administrator who have kept the kitchen operating and provided relief to many members and their families who needed a break from cooking during the shutdown of restaurants, pubs and clubs. All staff have worked tirelessly to keep the course in top playing condition which is no easy feat with the amount of play there has been on the course. All staff have worked as a team to keep the club available to members and the pro shop have undertaken the implementation of the protocols with ease and a smile. If I have forgotten anyone please accept my apologies. All sub committees have met during this period. Thanks for your efforts.
I believe our members have without question complied with the playing conditions and they will adopt the new clubhouse rules in the best interests of the club and fellow members.
I don’t believe our big three O’s want us standing on our balcony or our front door applauding.
Please acknowledge their efforts while complying with social conduct rules for a magnificent effort effectively documented and implemented immediately to keep us playing within the rules and keeping our doors open and retaining staff with government assistance.
We will survive with sincere thanks to Timo, Stewo and Wilfredo and the efforts of all our staff.
