Sadly, longstanding member and Past Captain and President Jim Forbes “Dr Jim” passed away on Monday, two days after his 85th birthday. Jim was a quiet, well-spoken and well-respected member of the club who loved his golf.
Jim was originally a member of the “old” Rockingham course and played “A” Grade Pennants for the club. He retained his membership when the club moved to its current location on the 9th of March 1985.
Jim’s medical practice was in Safety Bay and the late 80’s he and his wife Beryl moved to Subiaco. Whilst maintaining his practice in Safety Bay he left Rockingham and joined Nedlands on the 14th of February 1989.
He played Pennants and was a regular competition player. Amongst his many victories was the 2015 Spring Cup. He also played Senior Pennants.
Jim and his wife Beryl, who was the Women’s Club Captain in 2009 and 2010, played in many mixed competitions together.
Jim served on the committee and was Captain in 2003 and President in 2006 and 2007.
He gave up competitive golf a few years back but continued to play social golf (9 holes) at least 3 times a week with his great friend George Sadler.
Sadly, his declining health put an end to that not so long ago.
The Committee, Staff and Members extend their condolences to his wife Beryl, his sons Jeremy and Justin and their families at this sad time.
Details of his Funeral will be advised at a later date.
